At the Ural State Mining University basketball is not just a game. It is difficult to find anything similar to such a close-knit fraternity of students. Here there are students of different courses, nationalities, and social statuses. And recently they have been joined by the representatives of the Republic of Guinea

On Friday, December 16, the Ural Geological Museum of the Ural State Mining University held a presentation of geological and mineralogical routes "Famous deposits of the Sverdlovsk region" for headmasters, directors of studies, and teachers of geography and nature study from the schools of Yekaterinburg, Kamensk-Uralskiy, and Polevskoy.

The main and most dynamically developing branch of industry in the Republic of Guinea (a West African state) is mining. That is why young people from Guinea have come to get education at the Ural Mining University.

Unfortunately, over a long period of time people of a great and strong country have been losing their roots, however, in our new reality the age-old Russian traditions begin to revive.

The other day the delegation of the Black Sea Fleet awarded by the Order of the Red Banner and headed by the Rear Admiral Commanding of the Black Sea Fleet Alexandr Fedotenkov arrived in Yekaterinburg to sign agreements with the subjects of the Ural Federal District. Last weekend, the residence of the Plenipotentiary Representative of the Russian President in the Ural Federal District hosted a solemn ceremony of signing cooperation agreements between the Sverdlovsk, Chelyabinsk, and Kurgan regions and the Black Sea Fleet. It was attended by the Governor of the Sverdlovsk region Alexandr Misharin, the Governor of the Kurgan Region Oleg Bogomolov, and the Deputy Governor of the Chelyabinsk Region Yuriy Klepov.

In the run-up to the elections for the State Duma of the Russian Federation and the Legislative Assembly of the Sverdlovsk Region, the Sverdlovsk Region Election Commission with the participation of higher educational institutions organized an interuniversity role-playing game "Elections of People’s Deputies". The role play was a simulation of a real election process where student teams were to create their own political parties and present them to the voters.

People of almost all professions – railway men, paratroopers, foresters, police officers – have their holidays to say nothing of Saint Valentine's Day. Only bosses though they do not constitute a great part of humanity did not have their own day for a long time. However, by now the whole world has been celebrating International Boss’s Day for several decades, and Russia has been doing this over the last few years.

In recent years, in the Urals as well as throughout Russia, the Cossack movement has been growing and getting stronger. The Cossacks are united into social organizations, which according to the old tradition are referred to as "khutors" and "stanitsas." This spring, the Ural State Mining University, the most multinational institution, has become the first higher educational establishment in the country with the stanitsa of the same name. On March 26, the Constituent Assembly of the "Ural Mining University" stanitsa elected the rector of the Mining University Nikolai Kosarev as its ataman and the First Pro-Rector of the University Mikhail Nosyrev as the assistant ataman.

In late August, the Cossacks of the “Ural Mining University" stanitsa returned from the multipurpose expedition to the rivers of Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous District under the code name "Clean fish". They signed a contract with the community of indigenous minorities of the North “Turupya" having a quota on whitefish catching and studied the routes to organize commercial tours of geological tourism to the area of mountain Narodnaya.

Each year, the Day of Running brings together hundreds of thousands of people all over Russia. The eighth "Cross of the Nation" dedicated to the World University Games in Kazan and the Winter Olympics in Sochi took place on September 25. Almost 40 thousand citizens of Yekaterinburg including members of the Sverdlovsk Region Government, Yekaterinburg administration, professional athletes, and thousands of unprofessional runners took part in amateur athletics competitions. Distances from one to twelve meters along Lenin Avenue were run by the students and staff of the Ural Mining University, pupils, teachers, and famous people of our city including heads and representatives of regional ministries, as well as deputies of the Legislative Assembly of the Sverdlovsk region.

Limited liability company «International geological tourism" has developed a new days-long geological and mineralogical tour of the unique natural features of the Southern Urals – the Chelyabinsk Region and the Republic of Bashkortostan.

The nationwide primaries have come to an end. Within the People's Front the work on preparing the People's program is underway. So far a huge number of proposals have been received to be considered by a special commission for the comments and suggestions.

This year from the early May to September 1 the site of our university www.1vuz.ru in collaboration with Sverdlovsk Regional Public Fund for the Support of the All-Russian political party "United Russia" and the deputy chairman of the House of Representatives of Sverdlovsk Regional Legislative Assembly Alexandr Serebrennikov conducted an intellectual game for the applicants "The Path to Success". Any school leaver who wanted to enter the Ural State Mining University had the opportunity to answer 140 tricky and interesting questions and win a special prize: Golden, Silver, or Bronze scholarship amounting to 5500 roubles a month.

Recently, the Cossacks of the "Ural Mining University" stanitsa have returned from a multipurpose expedition along rivers of Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area under the code-name "Clean fish".

On August 20 the best ensembles and performers of Orenburg Military Cossack Society gathered in Yekaterinburg. On the city’s birthday the elimination round of the military stage of the All-Russian contest “The Cossack Circle” took place in the square in front of the Concert Hall named after Lavrov. This bright festival was the chance to get acquainted with the best musical and singing, dancing, vocal, and instrumental Cossack ensembles. The spectators could enjoy the performance of the best groups and performers of Orenburg Military Cossack Society.
