Born May 22, 1953 in Verkhoturye, Sverdlovsk region. Specialist in the field of mining machinery and equipment; Doctor of Engineering Science (1989), professor (1994); Candidate’s thesis: "Research and development of ways and means to improve operating efficiency of the mine main fan installations with axial fans" (1980); Doctor’s thesis: "Scientific and technical bases of design engineering and optimization of the operation of the underground main ventilation fans" (1989).He graduated with honors from Sverdlovsk Mining Institute (1975) with a degree in Mining machines and complexes, mining mechanical engineer. 1976-1979 - post-graduate student, 1979-1982 – assistant lecturer, 1982-1987 — senior research fellow, 1987-1989 - assistant professor, 1989 - Professor of the Department of Mining Mechanics; 1992 - Dean of the Faculty of Additional Education; since 1994 - Director of the Mine Technical Expertise Center; since 1998 - Head of the Department of Mining Mechanics. He dilivers courses of lectures on "Stationary machines and plants", "Mining mechanics”. His main works are devoted to solving the problems of dynamic interaction in the system "a fan- network”, taking into account feedbacks between fans and swabbing effects of moving vehicles in the branched network of underground mine workings. Nikolai Kosarev is an Honorary Worker of Higher Professional Education of the Russian Federation (2001); a member of All-Union and inter-departmental conferences, meetings and seminars (Novosibirsk, 1979, 1981, 1987; Moscow, 1979.1985, 1987; Kiev, 1984; Dnepropetrovsk, 1985); an author and co-author of 100 publications, including 25 certificates of invention.
