Born on December 3, 1955 in the town of Maili-Sai of Oshsk Region of the Kirgiz Soviet Socialist Republic to the family of employees.

From 1973 to 1976 he served in the Navy (the Pacific Fleet).

In 1981 he graduated from VV Vakhrushev Sverdlovsk Mining Institute of the Order of the Red Banner of Labor with a degree in "Technology of underground mining. While studying at the Institute, he was elected a chairman of the student council.

After graduation, from 1981 to 1985, he worked at Urupsk ore-dressing and processing plant , holding the positions from a mining foreman to a overman of the underground section, where he was awarded the title of a Shock Worker of Communist Labor. From 1986 to 1990 he worked as an overman of the underground section at the Mining and Chemical Combine.

In 1990 he was invited to Sverdlovsk Mining Institute for the post of Pro-Rector for administrative and economic work. During his work he greatly contributed to the development of material resources, and solution of the problems of training specialists. Many a time he was awarded Honorary Certificates of the Government of Sverdlovsk Region and the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation. In 2001 by the order of the Ministry of Energy of Russia he was awarded the badge "Miner's Glory"of the third degree.
